UPS was my favorite 4 years ago but now they are too expensive. TODAY: Most items between 2-5 lbs under a cubic foot are cheapest with USPS Ground Advantage. The rest FedEx Ground Economy (sometimes Home Delivery is cheaper and faster rarely though). I live on the East Coast so shipping on east half is relatively cheap.

 

The thing about the tracking numbers that carriers use is that they get recycled. There's just so many packages that move through the system a tracking number will eventually get used again.
